Metz vs PSG, Ligue 1: Achraf Hakimi struck deep in stoppage time to earn Paris St Germain a 2-1 victory over the bottom table floater’s Metz on Wednesday and maintain their perfect Ligue 1 record this season.
The Morocco full-back scored twice to keep PSG perfect in the league. His first goal came just five minutes from the start of the play, while another five minutes into the stoppage after 90 minutes. PSG is now on top with 21 points from seven games.
PSG lead second-placed Marseille, who still have a game in hand and who drew their last match vs Angers 0-0, by seven points.
Metz, who finished with 10 men after Dylan Bronn picked up a second yellow card in the last minute, has three points from seven games.
In Metz, PSG was without Lionel Messi after the Argentine forward was ruled out with a bruised knee, but Hakimi stepped up in his absence. Hakimi is the newcomer this season.
He opened the scoring by firing home a sitter after Mauro Icardi‘s attempt had been deflected into his path by Matthieu Udol.
PSG were caught cold six minutes before the halftime break when Boubakar Kouyate headed home a leveler from Lamine Gueye’s cross as the hosts made the most of the little possession they enjoyed.
Neymar went close on a couple of occasions but the Brazilian striker lacked the finishing touch and Metz stayed in contention until the last minute when Bronn was shown his second yellow card for wasting the time. A draw in this game would be a great result for Marseille as they are already behind the eight-ball.
Five minutes later, Hakimi curled a superb shot into the net after being wonderfully set up by Neymar, giving Mauricio Pochettino’s side all three points after another, not a top-notch performance.
Paris, champions in seven of the last nine seasons, celebrated wildly, with Neymar booked in the aftermath.
“The team fight to the end and never admit defeat, they have this ability to surpass themselves, with character, and the reward came at the end,” said PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino
