Chelsea vs Brighton: as it happened.
The first goal was scored by Chelsea. Romelu Lukaku, did his work to give his team the lead. It was an inswinger from Mount and Lukaku got away from Maupay in the middle.
Lukaku drifted to the near post and flicked the header across goal, past Sanchez, and into the bottom corner. Maupay was on the ground holding his face, but he went down after trying to foul Lukaku, so VAR said the goal stands.
The first half didn’t see anything else except the goal and a few unfinished chances with some unlucky saves. Brighton once came very close in scoring but the shot was off the post and cleared.
The second half was very dramatic with Brighton showing desperation to score. Chelsea were very successful in tackling and moving towards counterattacks. The whole half was chances, misses, and saves.
The final minutes were very regretful for Chelsea as Brighton finally found a way past Chelsea. It was well-worked on the edge of the box before it was touched out to Cucurella, and he floated a lovely cross into the box. Welbeck had two defenders tight to him, but he managed to get the power on his header to send it into the back of the net. Mendy was wrongfooted and had no chance.
