T20 World Cup: England win by 6 wickets vs West Indies

T20 World Cup 2021: England vs West Indies, Moeen Ali

ICC T20 World Cup: England vs West Indies was a game for West Indies to forget. Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid, the spin twin, destroyed WI batting restricting them for 55 runs only.

The introduction of spin early has become a trend in UAE as witnessed in IPL and not in the T20 World Cup. Put into batting first West Indies got two huge early blows. Evin Lewis skied the ball to mid-off against Chris Woakes to gain confidence after a disappointing outing against India in the warm-up matches.

Moeen Ali was introduced in the third over and straight away got Lendl Simmons who was looking to slog the ball eventually caught at Cow Corner by Liam Livingstone. Ali again got into the act when a seed for the partnership was being sown. He got rid of Shimron Hetmyer to add more pressure on the West Indian team.

The comeback for Tymal Mills was reveling for him as he casts his spell on Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran. His four overs were economical giving only 17 runs and picking up two wickets.

After Gayle’s wicket, it was a wicket fest for England, especially when Rashid got his hands on the ball. Having lost six wickets inside 9 overs, West Indies lost their last four wickets in just 13 runs. All of the wickets were taken by Adil Rashid.

The Caribbean team disappointed with the bat with not batter looked comfortable. Their team is filled with hard hitters from the opener till the last batter. They should have taken Shai Hope into consideration, he can provide them with that stillness.

Nearly every bowler had their moment and but Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali, and Tymal Mills stood out the most.

Chasing 56 runs would be a piece of cake for England and it certainly was. But when Jason Roy lost his wicket against Ravi Rampaul West Indies had a 1 % hope to bundle out England.

The scenes that were going on inside the powerplay when England lost another three wickets inside 40 runs, West Indies became interested and hopeful too. However, experienced campaigner pair of Jos Buttler and Eoin Morgan prevented any further loss as well as secured their two points.

Akeal Hosein was brilliant with the ball picking up two wickets in his four overs. also good was Ravi Rampaul with his only two overs spell.

Every win counts being in a group that is competitive as this one. Any team can make or break the T20 World Cup dream. The Player of the match was awarded to Moeen Ali.

Moeen Ali:

“It feels good to take a catch like that. These moments in the games are a real booster. I have played a lot of cricket recently, I was very confident and am glad I was handed the ball early on. Playing in the final and semi-finals in the IPL, before coming into the T20 World Cup, has put me on the right track.”

Eoin Morgan:

“To start a campaign in such a manner is as great as it gets and Our bowling unit gave tremendous effort. I am delighted for Big T(Tyran Mills), he has been a bit unfortunate with his game, but you can see some improvements in him. He has also grown as a fielder and I am glad he could come back and play the way we have seen him play in Sussex. We were considering the net run rate, we wanted the players to come out and attack early on, but that did not work out as per plan.”

Kieron Pollard:

“Someday’s there’s no explanation and it was just a poor day. Being bundled out for 55 leaves them with no excuses and will look to put this behind. Even in the warmup matches, we didn’t bat well which is what we have to work on. This is international cricket and there’s no panic. we have played a lot of T20 and international cricket and this isn’t the first time things have gone wrong for a team and for them it’s just about moving on, that’s what we will look to do. Hosein did a fine job today coming in for Fabian Allen and bowling the way he did, this performance will help him calm his nerves on the international arena.”
