ENG vs IND 5th Test: Breaking News is that the Manchester Test has been called off after Covid-19 disrupted the Indian camp, rendering the visitors unable to field a team.
The COVID intervention started with Indian Head Coach Ravi Shastri was first to test positive after the 4th Test. He was sent to isolation straight after that. Along with him, bowling coach Bharat Arun as well as Indian Physiotherapist Nitin patel were also sent to isolation as they were identified as ‘Close Contact’ to Ravi Shastri.
Earlier today, RTPCR were done and Yogesh, assistant Physio, was tested positive. However, Indian players were found to test negative and match to be played as regularly planned. But now it is cancelled.
India was leading the series 2-1 after a historic Oval Test win. England was determined and desperate as well to level the series. India taking the invincible lead at England’s home turf was a bit annoying for the England team and their fans.
Earlier the talks were going on if India will forfeit the match. But BCCI and ECB have mutually decided to cancel the Old Trafford Test.
The ECB, on Friday 10 September, stated: “Following ongoing conversations with the BCCI, the ECB can confirm that the fifth Test between England and India Men due to start today at Old Trafford, will be cancelled.
“Due to fears of a further increase in the number of COVID cases inside the camp, India are regrettably unable to field a team.
“We send our sincere apologies to fans and partners for this news, which we know will cause immense disappointment and inconvenience to many.”
The ECB and BCCI have mutually decided to call off the fifth #ENGvIND Test, which was due to begin today.
