F1 Live, qualifying Turkish GP: Valtteri Bottas takes pole at Istanbul while his Mercedes teammate despite being the quickest will start 11th after the engine change penalty.
“The track is completely different – the track is totally awesome with the grip levels it is giving us. Great job by the team s, impressed with the performance. Tomorrow will be difficult, but I’ll give it everything. Not the easiest overtaking, and we are all on the same tyres as well. Hopefully we can give the fans a good race,” said Lewis after the qualifying.
Lewis Hamilton and his colleague looked pacey today, with solid lap times in every lap. The legend ran with a time of 1:22.868 while Bottas +0.130 behind.
“It was a good quali, was some good laps. Last lap I got some understeer but other than that, enjoyed it. I’ll focus on my own race tomorrow I think,” said Bottas.
Max Verstappen finishes third being +0.328 behind and will join Bottas at the front row. Sergio Perez was struggling to find grip and had to settle for 7th position.
“The beginning was quite tricky with the conditions but compared to yesterday, we managed to turn it around quite well. Overall, quite a decent recovery compared to yesterday,” says Max Verstappen.
Charles Leclerc, Pierre Gasly, and Fernando Alonso get 4th, 5th, and 6th place respectively but will gain a position because of Hamilton’s grid penalty.
Not quite the result Mclaren was hoping for as Lando Norris slides to 8th spot while Ricciardo was eliminated in the first qualifying being 16th.
Lance Stroll and Yuki Tsunoda sneak through into the top 10 with being 9th and 10th respectively.
Sebastian Vettel, Esteban Ocon, George Russell, Mick Schumacher, Carlos Sainz are 11th to 15th in order. Followed by Nicholas Latifi, Antonio Giovinazzi, Kimi Raikkonen, and Nikita Mazepin the bottom four drivers.
