KRR vs SRH: Kolkata very much in hunt for playoffs

KKR vs SRH: Shubman Gill

KRR vs SRH, IPL 2021: Shubman Gill playing a brilliant knock helps Kolkata fight the orange army. Defending a low total, SRH found the rhythm but lost the initial momentum at the end.

Hyderabad at the toss back the wrong horse to bat first, as they only managed to put on 115 runs. Batting is the Crux of the Matter for SRH failing on most occasions.

Tim Southee, Shivam Mavi, and Varun Chakravarthy are among the wicket-takers. Shakib Al Hasan also proved vital in the attack, picking up 1 wicket for himself. Sunil Narine although not getting any wicket but proving a nightmare to score against.

Skipper, Kane Williamson was the man to take SRH to a high place but he too fell from a brilliant piece of work by Shakib for a runout.

More than the pitch, SRH batters gifted their wickets to the KKR bowling attack with poor shot selections and decisions.

Priyam Garg and Abdul Samad were the other two batters to make any sort of impression. Samad in particular was in control of his batting. The brute force he delivers in his every shot is commendable and a talent to look after in the future.

It was then who gets out first like batting, no plan was seen in the middle.

Hyderabad defending a not-so-big total struck twice to stun KKR. In form batter, Venkatesh and Rahul both were sent off around the powerplay overs.

KKR vs SRH: Umran Malik bowling action.
Umran Malik bowling action.

Defending a low total Jason Holder was expensive although he did get two wickets. Umran Malik impressed everyone with his pace playing his first IPL match. His bowling figures did not justify his performance at all.

The momentum lost from the wickets fell was regained from the knock of Gill and lightning cameo from Nitish Rana. Although KKR were in a better position, SRH did not let it lose.

But Dinesh Karthik and captain Eoin Morgan shook the dust away and took those most important 2 points from the match. Gill got the Man of the Match.

Kane Williamson.

“We should’ve added a few more runs on the board. Their bowlers did well to stem up the run flow. Things can change quickly in the IPL as we have seen previously. We could not get off to a great start and missed a few partnerships in the middle. Malik has got a lot of paces, he is quite special. It was an amazing time for him to get a run in today’s game. We are out of the season of contention this season, so maybe the young lads will get some chances. As a unit, we can aim to put up good performances.”

Dinesh karthik.

“It was a great game of cricket. I went out and got lucky to get that first boundary. We did not want to take the game too deep and wanted to take risks in the middle. It was a great knock from Rana and Gill credit to them for this win. Our fingers are crossed for the spot in the playoffs.”

Eoin Morgan.

“The wicket was slower than it was in their last game. We bowled and fielded really well and it is a vast improvement from our last game. Shakib Al Hasan is a huge player and he had a big impact in this game. We are focused on playing good cricket and that has brought confidence in the dressing room.”

Shubman Gill.

“We were looking to keep wickets in hand early in the innings. Hitting spinners on that wicket was not easy and I was targeting the shorter boundary. I did not have meant runs under my belt and it was important for me to not throw away my wicket and put the opposition ahead. I am used to playing on wickets where there is very low bounce as wrists come into play on those wickets.”
