Ind vs Eng 1st test: James Anderson wins the rivalry battle as he took Virat Kohli for a golden duck. Back-to-back wickets from Anderson and a run-out saw England making their way back. India strong on day 1-1st test.
1st Session: India starts strong.
Indian opening pair of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul started the day in good fashion. Both were seen as very calm and composed. Ollie Robinson was bowling amazing spell testing the batsmen at every other ball. The first run of the day would come in the 24th ball of the day from Rohit Sharma from a nice hook shot.
There were appeals here and there but nothing much to worry about. Both the batsmen looked set as they played some lovely drives through covers and down the ground too. It was magnificent to watch. Especially from the bat of KL Rahul. India would bring up their 50 in the 26th over.
They were also rotating the strike quite well with good understanding. However, in the 38th over, Ollie Robinson would break the partnership with a quick bouncer to Rohit Sharma ( 34 runs from 107 balls, 6(4) ) who tried to hit it but could not control it and finding Sam Curran at the deep fine-leg boundary. It was marked as the end of the first session.
Session 1: [ 24.3 overs ], [ 76 runs ], [ 1 wicket ], [ 3.1 runrate ].
2nd Session: England back in the game.
While the first session was taken by India. England took the 2nd session with authority. A dream delivery from James Anderson took the outside edge of Cheteshwar Pujara’s ( 4 runs from 16 balls ) bat. The ball swinging toward Pujara in the air and seaming away after pitching was a gorgeous delivery. India were 104/2 after that.
It will soon become 2 from 2 as the Indian skipper was out for a golden duck. Similar kind of delivery from Anderson. Instead, it was pitched wider from the stumps. Virat Kohli expected the ball to come in but it seamed away to take the outside edge to Jos Butler. A great start to the session for England. James Anderson was on a hat trick. It was wasted because the inswinger was down the leg side to the keeper.
KL Rahul bringing his 50 in 128 balls. Ajinkya Rahane ( 5 runs from 6 balls ) seemed overly aggressive while taking singles which eventually happened to be his end. Bairstow’s direct hit was the end of Rahane’s innings. It was never a run there, to be honest.
Rishabh Pant was the next man in for India. He started the innings in his style advancing down the pitch and going over cover. Dom Sibley dropped KL Rahul at the 2nd slip in the 45th over. It would have been real hard for India to bounce back from that.
Rain interrupted the game in the 48th over and would not resume the day. Stumps were called off to wash out the remaining play for the day.
KL Rahul : [ 51 runs, 157 balls, 9 fours ], Rishabh Pant: [ 7 runs, 8 balls, 1 four ].
