ENG vs IND 4th Test: Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur, Umesh Yadav shines bright in a shocking England collapse. England bowled out for 210 after being 100-0. It is only the second win for team India at the Oval after 50 years.
Day 5 started well for England as the openers continued their advancement. It was looking like a chaseable target with the likes of Root and Bairstow to still come to bat. So it was a double-edged sword.
Just after completing team hundred, Lord Shardul struck with a hint of reverse swing from the pitch to rid of Rory Burns. The ball was angled in just outside off on a good length, getting enough moment from the surface to take the outside edge to Rishabh Pant. England 100-1.
Dawid Malan became easy meat as he tried to take a single. A quick pick and throw from the substitute Mayank Agarwal. England 120-2.
Just as England were looking comfortable, Haseeb Hameed misjudged the line and spin to get himself bowled. Ravindra Jadeja from over the wicket, Pitched it outside leg stump and it spun a long way to hit the off stump. England 141-3.
Jasprit Bumrah was brought into the attack by the Indian captain. The decision was rewarded as Bumrah ripped through Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow’s castles. Pure class from Bumrah with the reverse swinging old ball. You got to see the wickets, magnificent.
England were sailing on a sinking boat as Moeen Ali too gone without opening his account. A soft dismissal, classic spinner’s dismissal, thick inside edge straight to short leg.
India’s fantasy grew into reality when Joe Root was dismissed by Lord Shardul. India did not take the new ball, gives Shardul Thakur a go before taking it and he has delivered yet again. He bowls a good-length ball on the fifth stump channel, Joe Root stays deep in the crease and looks to cut it away. He is perhaps a bit too late into his shot. The ball goes off the inside half of the bat and shatters the stumps.
It was then just a matter of time until India and fans celebrated in revelment. This win marked just the second Indian win at the Oval. It took India 50 years to have a taste of win at the Oval.
You have to admire the Indian team’s mindset as well as Virat Kohli’s captaincy. It was a brilliant display from the field setting to bowling changes to the celebration also. By the way, Rohit Sharma was awarded the Man of the Match award.
This is a series of records breaking and making. Till now we have seen so many records and milestones broke and achieved. I think will see more of that in the 5th Test as well.
England are now under pressure to win the fifth Test on-demand as India takes an invincible 2-1 lead. Twitter was flooded with India winning the Oval Test.
