Ind vs Eng 1st test day 4: Joe Root’s masterclass with a fighting century. While Jasprit Bumrah’s 5 wickets put India in a position to win the 1st test. Day 3 highlights in case you missed.
1st Session: Shared session for both the teams.
India started the session with a bang. 2 wickets in 2 overs. Rory Burns was caught behind of Mohammed Siraj’s bowling. The ball seaming away just a little to take the outside edge of Burns, who was looking to defend. Jasprit Bumrah Struck right in the next over. Zak Crawley had to depart trying to defend the ball but getting an outside edge. A nice diving catch from Pant to his right.
Joe Root came to the crease and started scoring immediately. He was looking skeptical at the start with a bit of luck but managed to survive. It was just a matter of time for him to get used to the pitch. On the other end, Dom Sibley was batting like Pujara.
Joe Root started to play freely playing every shot. Some missed chances, some appeals, and some waste of DRS from India. The partnership would continue for the rest of the session. England were 119/2 in 40 overs. Virat Kohli out for a golden duck watch here.
Session 1: [ 28.5 overs ], [ 94 runs ], [ 2 wickets ], [ 3.26 runrate ].
2nd Session:
Joe Root started the session where he left off. Scoring quickly and effectively. Dom Sibley was frustrating the bowlers with his steady approach. Jasprit Bumrah got Sibley in the 46th over. Inswinger ball pitching way outside off stump taking inside edge to Pant, who took a wonderful catch again. England were 135/3 in 45.5 overs.
Johnny Bairstow was looking dangerous too scoring runs quickly. While Root was continuing his dominance. The partnership was looking real dangerous and still 20 to 25 overs to go for the new ball. Mohammed Siraj went with the short ball to Bairstow, who took it on, just to find the best fielder in the Indian team, Ravindra Jadeja at the deep square-leg boundary. England were 177/4 in 57.4 overs.
Dan Lawrence unlike last time looked confident and positive from the start. He also started just like Jonny Bairstow scoring boundary at every opportunity. But he was also short-lived as Shardul Thakur came in action with his reverse swing. The ball nipped back into the pads and a plumb LBW.
Session 2: [ 30 overs ], [ 116 runs ], [ 3 wickets ], [ 3.87 runrate ].
Final Session: It was India all around.
First, it was Jos Butler who left an inswinger from Shardul Thakur to hit the off stump. England were 237/6. England’s strategy to attack continued with Sam Curran also getting in the action right away. Meanwhile, on the other end, Root reached his century with a straight drive.
Sam Curran would a few boundaries before the new ball was taken. Jasprit Bumrah strikes straight away to get rid of the skipper, Joe Root, caught behind. 3 overs later, Sam Curran would fall to Jasprit Bumrah. Again a quick collapse from the England batting lineup. England All out at 303 with Jasprit Bumrah’s 5. India strong on day 1.
