IND vs NZ 2021, 3rd T20I, Kolkata: The host being merciless took revenge for ICC T20 World Cup 2021 Group stage loss on the Kiwis. With this massive 73 runs win, India sweeps Men in Black 3-0 to welcome Rohit’s era.
Rahul Dravid and management were quite active when they landed in Kolkata. Despite going to the hotel first, Dravid preferred to take a closer look at Eden Garden’s pitch. With that analysis in mind, Rohit after winning the toss for the third time straight decided to bat first.
Changes were made from both sides, with India resting KL Rahul and Ravichandran Ashwin while bringing in Yuzvendra Chahal and Ishan Kishan. The visitors were playing without their skipper, Tim Southee, and Lockie Ferguson was given the chance.
Foggy conditions and India started with a bang. Despite KL Rahul’s absence, India went on to a 50 runs opening stand. Both openers basically hit the ball, whenever they wanted and wherever they wanted. The powerplay was huge getting 69 runs.
However, the Indian express was slowed down by three quick wickets in the form of Ishan Kishan(29), Suryakumar Yadav(0), and Rishabh Pant(4). India was losing the momentum gained from the powerplay.
The damage was done by the left-arm spinner, Mitchell Santner, who was captaining the side. All the opening three wickets were taken by him. All this at an expense of just 27 runs in his four overs spell. If bowled well, spinners will be in action as the New Zealand spin duo dictated. Ish Sodhi took the most important wicket of Rohit Sharma in the 12th over to start a typical New Zealand comeback.
The intent from the next batters was amazing and had never been seen by the Indian side before. Having lost wickets in wholesale, you would believe India would go in their shell, however, the Iyer pair turned it around on a good batting track.
Their partnership of 36 runs from 27 balls built the structure for the tail to build upon. Both of them, however, would fall in quick succession.
Harshal Patel and Deepak Chahar gave India the ending of their dreams to end on a total of 184 runs. Although, a massive target for the Kiwis, the pitch was suitable to chase down the target.
The Black Caps started nicely scoring 21 runs from the first two overs. However, the introduction of Axar Patel proved a game-changer. Two wickets in the third over of the innings pinned New Zealand down. He would go on and pick up Glenn Phillips in his next over for a duck.
Martin Guptill and Tim Seifert played together nicely but Superman was in the field. Ishan Kishan got two runouts to completely ruin New Zealand’s chances.
Two wickets for Harshal Patel and one wicket for Venkatesh Iyer, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Deepak Chahar. Although finishing the match wicketless, Bhuvneshwar bowled a pretty decent two overs.
India took revenge for a loss against New Zealand in the recent ICC T20 World Cup 2021. India were then all out for 111 and now India dismissed the visitors for the same total.
