Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the UAE leg of the IPL 2021 due to a finger injury. Royal Challengers Bangalore have named Akash Deep, the Bengal medium-pacer, as his replacement.
Wahington Sundar was injured in England.
All-roundeJust before the five-match Test series against England, Washington suffered an injury on his finger on the right hand when he was hit by a sharp lifter from Mohammed Siraj in the practice game between County Select XI and the Indians. He was subsequently taken for an X-Ray and the result confirmed a fracture. The off-spinning all-rounder has been with the RCB set-up since the start of the 2018 season.
“Royal Challengers Bangalore‘s all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remainder of the Vivo IPL 2021 due to an impending finger injury,” the IPL franchise said in a statement.
Bengal cricketer Akash Deep, who is a net bowler with the franchise, has been named as a replacement for the remainder of the IPL.
Bad news for some, good news for some.
Meanwhile, the 24-year-old Akash Deep made his T20 debut in March 2019 and has bagged 21 scalps at 16.35 in the shortest format of the game. His best haul of 4 for 35 came against Hyderabad in the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy this year.
Sources told PTI that Washington appeared in a fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru a few days back but could not clear it.
The World Twenty20 is slated to begin immediately after the conclusion of the IPL and it is yet to be seen if Washington is picked in the Indian squad without playing a single IPL game.
