Premier League, Stamford Bridge: It was a hard-fought victory for Chelsea over Leeds. The end scoreline was 3-2, and the match was on the verge of drawing. After having 2 matches against their wishes they found some rhythm yesterday to stay at the top of the table.
Mendy couldn’t keep his clean sheet but the team earned their 3 points. Though the scoreline looked big, 3 of the goals were scored through penalty in the match.
The start of the match was a bit absurd to play in. Both the teams were pressing hard with Chelsea’s defense playing a high line. It took 28 minutes for the first goal to come.
It was a penalty scored by Rafinha. A clumsy tackle by Marcus Alonso on Daniel James in the box, caused Chelsea to give away a free goal to Leeds. The penalty shout was loud, as Alonso was late to tackle the player the referee went showed the spot.
Chelsea managed to equalize in the first half itself. Mason Mount continued his scoring spell. Just 3 minutes before the halftime whistle, Marcus won the ball in the Leeds half and went to the byline with the ball. He laid it to Mason in the middle who fired it at the first pole and in the net.
The second half saw 3 goals in the match. Rudiger won the penalty in the 58th minute of the match, As he was a high line he received the ball on the left side of the post and was hardly tackled by Rafinha. Jorginho took the penalty and fired it in the top left corner.
As the match reached its climax Leeds scored the equalizer. Gelhardt was in front of Mendy and directed the ball in the net first time. It was justice to the brilliant cross by Robert.
Chelsea looked desperate to score and Rudiger has fouled again in the box. This time it looked that Leeds wanted the ball outside the box as soon as possible and conceded the penalty. It was Jorginho versus the keeper round 2. Jorginho won the battle and won the match.
