Commanding Chelsea leads UCL group with a win at home

Chelsea beat Juventus 4-0. Antonio Rudiger, Hakim Ziyech, and Timo Werner.

UCL, Group H, Stamford Bridge: Chelsea have stormed their way into the last 16 of the Champions League with a 4-0 hammering of Juventus at Stamford Bridge.

Trevoh Chalobah put the Blues ahead in the first half with a fine strike from 10 yards. Reece James continued his outstanding season in front of goal with a blast on the half-volley to double their advantage before Callum Hudson-Odoi added a third on his left foot.

Timo Werner capped off the performance, tapping home a fourth from Hakim Ziyech’s cross. Chelsea moves to the top of Group H after their rout of the Italian outfit, who slip into second.

Chelsea were dominating the game yesterday in the match against Juventus. Chelsea took 21 shots towards the goal and had 55% of possession. Tuchel’s Chelsea managed to keep their clean sheet and also are through to the group stage of champions league with 12 points in their bag and still 1 match to go.

The defender, Trevah Chalobah, at 25th min scored the first goal for Chelsea. Ziyech whipped a corner in from the left flank that Rudiger chested down into the path of Chalobah. The defender took on the strike the first time and drilled his attempt on the half-volley into the top-left corner. The ball appeared to strike Rudiger on the arm in front of his chest, which Juve appeal against. However, the goal was confirmed by VAR.

Chelsea almost lost the lead just after scoring their first goal. Locatelli Chipped the ball over the defense line to Morata and he was able to chip it over Mendy in the direction of goal but Thiago Silva’s goal-line clearance kept the game at 1-0. It was a great clearance by the Brazilian.

The blues and the old lady both had many chances on their way but couldn’t pass it through the keepers. Bentacurs’ shot went wide at 45+3rd that marking the end of the half.

The Blues extended their lead at 55th as James fired a crisp strike past Szczesny. The wing-back gathered across from Ziyech in the right-inside channel before he lined up a drive. His effort rocketed into the bottom-left corner to hand Chelsea control of the contest.

It was just 2 minutes in the goal scored and Chelsea made it 3-0 extending the lead. Hudson Odoi slammed home a strike from close range. James took possession in the right-inside channel and feeds Loftus-Cheek on the charge through the middle. He couldn’t find space for a shot, but he offloaded for Hudson-Odoi to fire past Szczesny on his left foot.

The game was full of chances till 90+5th minute, it was when Timo Werner made it 4 for Chelsea. Werner converted a simple chance from six yards to complete the out for Chelsea. Ziyech robbed McKennie of possession down the left flank and he curled a precise low ball across the face of the goal. Werner was in the right place at the right time to slot home the strike.

Including second group stages, Chelsea has now progressed from 18 of their 19 group stage participation in the UEFA Champions League, including each of their last seven since failing in 2012-13.

Juventus suffered their heaviest ever UEFA Champions League defeat, and second-heaviest in the European Cup/Champions League overall, after a 0-7 loss to Wiener Sport-Club in October 1958. Indeed, this was the first time the Old Lady lost by four goals in any competition since February 2004, a 0-4 Serie A defeat to Roma.

Chelsea has won each of their last four homes. games in the UEFA Champions League, their best such run since also winning four in a row from November 2013 to April 2014.
