Djokovic continues to dominate.
Novak Djokovic is in top form and was challenged by Nishikori from Japan. Nishikori took the first set in his favour but was unable to continue that momentum. Novak fired back winning 3 consecutive sets to put the game aside. 6-7(4-7), 6-3, 6-3, 6-2.
Alexander Zevrev won his matchup against the American Jack Sock. The game did not finish as Zevrev was awarded the win with a walkover. Same story as Novak’s Sock winning the first set while Zevrev firing back with 2.
The number 5 seed, Denis Shapovalov, from Canada, faces an upset from Lloyd Harris, a South African player. It was a straight-set victory for Harris with identical scores of 6-4. Disappointing end to the journey of Denis.
Danlil Medvedev sweeps Pablo Andujar 6-0, 6-4, 6-3. He will be a healthy competition for Djokovic. Medvedev successfully broke 7 times from 13 breakpoints opportunities. He is through to the round of 16.
Naomi Osaka bows out in the 3rd round of US OPEN 2021.
Naomi Osaka after a disappointing end to the Tokyo Olympics was hoping for a US OPEN revival. However, Leylah Annie Fernandez, from Canada, proved difficult for Osaka. The first set was as planned went to Osaka But a fighting effort by Leylah wins her the second set in the tiebreaker. With the winning momentum, she continued her surge to eventually make an upset. 5-7, 7-6(7-2), 6-4. ( Naomi Osaka is taking an unlimited break from the tennis world but will be back soon stronger. )
The upset journey continues for Ashleigh Barty as well. After facing an early upset at Tokyo, Barty faces another one. Shelby Roger advances to the round of 16 with 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(7-5). Absolutely nothing to separate the two. I think a better day for Roger.
Elina Svitolina for strong Kasatikina. It was a straight-set match 6-4, 6-2. The main difference in the match was the breakpoints opportunities. Elina got 9 which she converting 3 of them. While Daria got 3 and none converted.
Belinda Bencic wins on a high note 6-2, 6-4. A surge from the Swiss player continued with a dominant show in the 3rd round too. Great Serving, taking breakpoint chances, and high receiving points gave Bencic the game.
Angelique Kerber beat Sloane Stephens 5-7, 6-2, 6-3. Again a game where breakpoints were crucial. 10 chances for Kerber and only 5 for Stephens. Kerber converted 50% of them, While Stephens could only convert 40%.
Petra Kvitova was unable to find the solution for Maria Sakkari as she had to depart. It was a pretty straightforward match from the scoreline 4-6, 3-6. Nothing much from the stats just pure dominance from Maria.
Simona Halep is also through to the round of 16. She had to face Elena Rybanika to get through. The first set went to the tiebreaker which was long. Eventually, Halep won the set. The second set went to Rybanika but the decider was taken away by Halep pretty easily. (11-13), 6-4, 3-6.
